Research Field

My research interests span several disciplines including reproductive physiology, endocrinology, cell and molecular biology. Graduate students in my laboratory use fishes (zebra fish, Danio rerio, and mosquito fish, Gambusia affinis) and amphibians (Xenopus laevis) as research models to study molecular mechanisms of oocyte maturation and ovulation.

We also study the effects of environmental factors (pollutants or endocrine-disrupting chemicals) on gene expression, steroid production, and sex differentiation of the species. Our research projects are funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU), and other agencies.

I teach the following courses: General Biology II (BIOL 152), Introductory Cell Biology (BIOL 222), Molecular Biology (BIOL 425), Endocrinology (BIOL 380), Biotechnology (BIOL 528), Developmental Biology (BIOL 427/527), Undergraduate Seminar (BIOL 492), Graduate Seminar (BIOL 592), etc. (Some courses are offered once every two years.)
