Broadcast Production

Broadcasting offers a wide range of opportunities for those who are interested in the technical side of radio and television production. ENMU’s program offers students a firm foundation. Students gain hands-on experience by working at KENW-TV, the campus station, with one of the largest viewing areas in the nation. A nightly newscast is produced, directed and performed by students. The Broadcast Center also serves as a PBS television affiliate and a National Public Radio affiliate.

“Creative Living with Sheryl Borden,” the only nationally syndicated television show in New Mexico, is taped at Eastern at KENW-TV. Creative Living has been on the air for 26 years, and is aired nationally on more than 100 PBS stations. ENMU students are a vital asset to the show as they run cameras, set up and take down the sets, operate audio and video machines, and assist in numerous other ways. There are four other weekly shows students may be involved in.

Students courses include:

  • basic and advanced TV production
  • audio production
  • writing
  • directing
  • documentary field production
  • acting for television

Students also complete four semesters of workshop, providing real-world experience in studio and field operations. In addition, an internship or professional semester is available to qualified juniors and seniors.
