The National Examination in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (NESPA) and the ENMU CDIS NESPA Workshop

There are no immediate plans to schedule a summer NESPA workshop. Students who have not yet completed this training but who are planning to take the NESPA in the summer of 2008 should contact Dr. Adrienne Bratcher for specific scheduling information as soon as possible. The next preparatory workshop for the National Examination in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (NESPA) will occur on in the fall of 2008. Workshop completion is mandatory for all students prior to sitting for the NESPA.

Information and registration materials for the PRAXIS series National Examination in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (NESPA) can be found at the ETS Teaching and Learning Division online. This site contains information on how the assessments are used, how to register to take the tests, how to get your scores and more.

Knowledge and Skills Outcomes

To graduate, students must meet knowledge and skills outcomes (as measured by the KASA form) that have been developed by the department in accordance with certification standards. ASHA certification standards are presented in their entirety in the Graduate Student Handbook or at www.asha.org. The KASA checklist form used by the ENMU CDIS department is found in Appendix D of the Student Handbook.

Progress toward achieving outcomes is provided to students each semester. Students who fail to meet outcomes will receive a remediation plan which may include:

  • Receiving clinical assignments
  • Retaking final exams
  • Taking comprehensive oral and/or written examinations
  • Independent research
  • Retaking a class
  • Other similar activities designed to demonstrate specific knowledge/skill competence as determined by the faculty.

Students with questions about knowledge and skills outcomes should contact Dr. Adrienne Bratcher, CDIS program director/graduate coordinator.
