Dr. Linda Weems

Dr. Weems has been employed in higher education since 1986 and came to Eastern New Mexico University in 1995. She currently serves as a Professor in the CDIS Program as well as the Dean of Graduate Studies for ENMU. She has extensive experience with course and program development as well as both professional and university committee service. She also contributes as an editor for several leading publishers of CDIS texts. Dr. Weems was honored with the Eastern New Mexico University Award for Faculty Excellence in Service in May of 2007.

Dr. Weems earned her B.S. in Communication Disorders from Eastern New Mexico University in 1974. She was awarded her M.S. and Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 1976 and 1985 respectively, and earned her CCC-SLP in 1979. She is currently in her 30th year of practice and has provided services in widely diverse settings to include public/private schools, hospitals, nursing homes, preschools/Headstarts, home-health care/ vocational rehab agencies, and the Oklahoma Department of Health. Her teaching and clinical interests focus primarily on neurogenic aspects of speech-language pathology in both adult and pediatric populations, as well as with differential diagnostic procedures for dysphagia, motor-speech disorders, and vocal/resonance impairments. Her current research interests also include personnel preparation, programmatic enhancement, and competency development in speech-language pathology graduate students.

With regard to her non-academic interests, Dr. Weems is the mother of one cool kid who routinely involves her in fascinating adventures. These have included white-water rafting, parasailing, skiing/snowboarding, multiple water-logged camping trips, various trampoline accidents, and more theme-park roller coasters than can be realistically tabulated. She is also the proud keeper of several reptiles, an un-named ball-python being the current favorite. Dr. Weems is well-recognized as a snappy dresser and is further legendary for her dry sense of humor and her unintentional intimidation of undergraduate Speech Science students. It's so hard to tell when she's kidding.

Dr. Weems is almost always on campus but splits her time between the Graduate School Office in the Administration Building and the CDIS Department in Lea Hall. Her office hours for the CDIS Program (in Lea Hall, Room 207) for the Fall 2008 semester are:

  • Tuesdays from 1:30 to 3:30
  • Other times may be available by appointment
