Ms. Nicole Bougie
Ms. Bougie is the Director of ENMU's Speech and Hearing Rehabilitation Outreach Center as well as a clinical supervisor for on and off campus practicum sites. Her clinical interests encompass nearly all aspects of speech language pathology, from NICU to nursing homes. Ms. Bougie has spent the bulk of her career in hospital settings delivering acute care and outpatient services in and around the Amarillo area where she worked with patient of all ages and served as the primary pediatric therapist. In August, she returned to Portales to join the ENMU team in the Communication Disorders Department, helped to establish new clinical service sites at local nursing homes and area hospitals.
Ms. Bougie earned her B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1998. In between her classes and her study sessions in the Science Library, she played rugby on the University's team and enjoyed the numerous other distractions college life in a city can offer. After completing her B.S., she worked at a non-profit birth-to-three clinic as a speech therapy assistant for a year or so, then traveled to Portales to begin her graduate study at Eastern NM University.
Ms. Bougie earned her M.S. in Communicative Disorders at ENMU in 2002. She is excited to be a part of the team that was instrumental in her education, and to share her excitement for the field with students. She currently serves as lead supervisor and has recently begun coordinating all activities for the clinical program (e.g., scheduling, health fairs, and presentations to physicians, rehab staff, and families to promote a better understanding of what speech therapy can do for their patients/family members).
Nicole met a pecan farmer when she was working on her M.S. and now has a vast knowledge of growing trees in an arid climate. She often spends vacation traveling to see family and friends, but also enjoys reading, shopping, and anything in winter. She cannot make it through the day without coffee.
