Requirements

You can apply for the Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (S-STEM) program if you meet these requirements:

  • You have been admitted to Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) or one of the participating two-year colleges: ENMU-Roswell (ENMU-R), Clovis Community College (CCC) or New Mexico Junior College (NMJC) in Hobbs.
  • You are a United States citizen, national, refugee or permanent resident.
  • You are enrolled full-time in one of the targeted disciplines at ENMU or in an associate of science degree program at ENMU-R, CCC or NMJC.
  • You can demonstrate financial need for undergraduate students using the U. S. Department of Education rules for federal financial need.

High school students:

  • Earn a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 or an ACT composite score of at least 22 or an ACT math score of at least 22 or an ACT science score of at least 22.
  • Submit high school transcripts to the ENMU-S-STEM Project Office (address below.)

Transfer students and students currently attending ENMU, ENMU-R, CCC or NMJC:

  • Earn a cumulative college GPA of 3.0 or greater.
  • Submit college transcripts to the ENMU-S-STEM Project office (address below)
  • Pursue a major in the targeted programs

All Applicants:

  • Send two letters of recommendation to the ENMU-S-STEM Project Office by U.S. mail or e-mail.
  • Submit a completed S-STEM application form to the ENMU S-STEM Project office by U.S. mail, e-mail or online.
  • Register for the first core course in one of the majors during the fall semester of 2009.
  • The project personnel will provisionally consider students admitted with a high school GPA or college GPA between 2.5 and 3.0. The mentor will monitor more closely and provide additional academic support to the provisional scholar. For these students to continue receiving the scholarship, they must demonstrate growth toward a GPA of at least 3.0.

Note: To retain an S-STEM scholarship recipients must maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA, maintain full-time enrollment in the targeted discipline and demonstrate financial need at the beginning of each academic year.
