Political Science

Political Science is the study of government, public policy and the political behavior of individuals and groups. At Eastern, political scientists will use both humanistic and scientific perspectives and skills to examine the United States, all other countries and regions of the world and international relations. As a political science major, you will acquire skills in writing, communication and analysis. A major in Political Science will prepare you to think independently and understand the concerns of others in current affairs.

A degree in political science will qualify you for many different careers in both the private and public sector. Some of these careers include:

  • Business
  • Law
  • State, local, and federal government
  • Journalism
  • International organizations and finance
  • Political campaigns
  • Interest groups and associations
  • Pre-college and college teaching.

Political science training also provides valuable preparation to participate in community organizations, electoral politics, movements on behalf of specific policies or even seeking elected or appointed positions in government.
